Around 800 members of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), representing employees’ and officers’ unions of seven banks, staged a protest in Ongole on Friday (September 11, 2026) as a part of nationwide bank strikes demanding a five-day working week and the resolution of other pending issues.

UFBU Prakasam District Convenor Rajiv Ratan Dev said, “The bank employees have been suffering severe workload due to growing business targets and staff crunch. Five-day work-week is essential for better work-life balance among the bank employees.”

He further said, “The Government of India’s revised Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for public sector bank was applicable to only senior executives (Scale IV officers and above). We demand that the PLI scheme be uniform for employees and officers.”

A signature campaign was also organised on the occasion. All the bank employees who participated in the protest signed demanding the resolution of pending issues, including adequate recruitment of clerical and subordinate staff and restoration of the old pension scheme.
