If there's any player expected to have a bigger year than Bijan Robinson, we aren't aware of it. The Atlanta Falcons' superstar was just voted the third-best player in the NFL by his peers, and every analyst on the planet seems to be expecting a huge season statistically from the fourth-year running back. The latest to join this chorus is Douglas Clawson at CBS Sports, who is predicting Robinson will post 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards this year.
"Kevin Stefanski will lean heavily on Bijan Robinson, especially with Tyler Allgeier out of the picture and uncertainty at the quarterback position. Robinson will become the fourth player all-time with 1,000+ rush yards and 1,000+ rec yards in a season (Roger Craig, Marshall Faulk, Christian McCaffrey). He already had 820 receiving yards a year ago, so getting to 1,000 would not be a stretch."
1,000 and 1,000 is definitely not a stretch. In fact, Clawson may be selling Robinson a bit short. Our best projections for Robinson are 25% higher total thanks to some changes around him. First of all, in head coach Kevin Stefanski the Falcons have a leader who is committed to the run and allowing his best players to run wild - and if Stefanski favorite Nick Chubb could almost reach 1,500 rushing yards then Robinson certainly can, as well. From there, it's just a question of how many targets Robinson gets in the passing game. Tyler Allgeier often functioned as the third-down back for Atlanta, but he's out of the picture now and the Falcons have decided to roll into the season with just two running backs: Robinson will now be backed up by Brian Robinson Jr. and nobody else. That leads us to believe that our offseason assumption that the Falcons will make Bijan their go-to-guy on first, second and third down will prove to be correct. If that's the case, breaking 2,500 total yards from scrimmage is more than just a reasonable goal - it's inevitable if Robinson stays healthy.
