A release from District Collector S. Kandasamy said the scheme is being implemented in the district through the Agricultural Insurance Company of India Limited. A notification has been issued for insuring paddy crops at the firka level.
Farmers who have availed themselves of crop loans in the notified firkas can opt for insurance through the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies or nationalised banks from which they obtained the loans.
Non-loanee farmers can enrol through Common Service Centres, Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies or nationalised banks. They should submit the Adangal certificate for the current crop year obtained from the Village Administrative Officer, along with copies of the first page of their bank passbook, Aadhaar card and Chitta.
The premium has been fixed at ₹589.50 an acre, while the maximum sum insured is ₹39,300 an acre. Mr. Kandasamy appealed to all farmers, including tenant farmers, to enrol under the scheme and avail themselves of protection against unexpected crop losses.
