Jets head coach Aaron Glenn provided some updates following Wednesday’s practice…
Klubnik's continued growth
Rookie quarterbackCade Klubnik could potentially receive another big opportunity in Gang Green’s second preseason matchup in Pittsburgh on Friday night.
Glenn expects most of the team’s starters to receive some reps against the Steelers, but was non-committal on whether or not that’ll include veteran quarterback Geno Smith.
The Jets continue to play things safe with Smith as he battles through some ankle soreness, potentially lining Klubnik up to start for the second straight tune-up game.
The youngster certainly is making a strong case, as he enjoyed himself another big day at practice Wednesday, throwing a pair of touchdowns while taking first-team reps.
Glenn has been impressed with what he's seen from Klubnik thus far.
“Every time he practices he’s getting better and better,” the head coach said. “The mistakes he made in the game, those same mistakes haven’t shown up in practice -- that’s what you want to see from everybody.”
Stiggers back at practice
The Jets had a big-time scare last week, as Qwan’tez Stiggers had to be taken to the hospital after being stretchered off the field during a joint practice with the Buccaneers.
Stiggers was put in concussion protocol, but thankfully ended up being okay, and he was able to make his way back out on the practice field for Wednesday’s session.
He was donning a red non-contract jersey, but his return was still a welcomed sight.
"It’s really good to see Stiggers out there,” Glenn said. "And that goes for anybody, because I’ve been part of some scary situations in my time as both a player and a coach -- to see him out there running around on the cusp of getting back to being on the field, it's good to see.
“He’s a dang good player and he means a lot to us, so always happy to see him out there.”
