At ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ in Pune last month, Rahul Gandhi quoted 9.3 to a gathering of young women. The verse states that when a woman reaches adulthood, she is married and is under her husband’s control. He accused the verse of being an insult to women and told the crowd to shatter patriarchy. This brought the crowd to its feet. No Hindu apologist in the country can defend that verse without forfeiting any claim to moral credibility.
This is exactly what is wrong with this attack. It is correct. However, it is too simple.
