South Coast Railway officials in a joyful mood after successfully commissioning the Automatic Block Signalling system between Talamanchi and Sri Venkateswarapalem in Vijayawada Division on Wednesday.
Vijayawada Division of South Coast Railway (SCoR) has commissioned Automatic Block Signalling (ABS) on the triple-line section between Talamanchi, Alluru Road, Bitragunta and Sri Venkateswarapalem.

The project covers 22.13 route km and 66.39 track km, marking another step in the modernisation of railway signalling infrastructure.

With the commissioning of the system, the total ABS network between Gudur and Sri Venkateswarapalem has increased to 76.53 route km, strengthening the capacity and operational efficiency of one of the busiest rail corridors in the SCoR zone, railway officials said in a release on Wednesday.

ABS enables closer yet safe train operations by continuously detecting track occupancy and automatically controlling signals. The system is expected to improve safety, facilitate smoother train movements, reduce operational delays and enhance line capacity.

The newly commissioned system incorporates Multi-Section Digital Axle Counter (MSDAC)-based train detection, advanced electronic signalling arrangements, upgraded communication and monitoring facilities, and enhanced safety provisions at identified level crossings.

The upgraded signalling infrastructure will also provide greater flexibility in handling passenger and freight services while improving the reliability of train operations, the officials said.

The commissioning was carried out under the guidance of SCoR General Manager Sandeep Mathur, Principal Chief Signal and Telecommunication Engineer O.V. Suresh Kumar, Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager Mohit Sonakiya, Chief Signal and Telecommunication Engineer (Projects) Narendra Singh and Deputy Chief Signal and Telecommunication Engineer, Vijayawada, M. Veeraiah, along with their staff.
