The arrested were identified as SRO Shankar and document writer Vettri. According to the DVAC, farmer Karthi of Rayapalayam had approached the SRO to register the sale of 3.51 acres of property. Shankar allegedly demanded ₹7 lakh for carrying out the registration and instructed Mr. Karthi to hand over the money to Vettri.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, Mr. Karthi alerted the DVAC, which laid a trap. On Thursday evening, Mr. Karthi handed over the money to Vettri, who allegedly received it and passed it on to Shankar. The DVAC sleuths caught the duo red-handed. Further inquiry is on.
