The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption police said G. Karuppasamy of Krishnapuram in Kadayanallur applied for ‘patta’ in July for the land on which he had built his house. After uploading his online application, Mr. Karuppasamy met surveyor Mariraj and told him about his pending application for ‘patta’.
After a month, one Jegadish of Kadayanallur met Mr. Karuppasamy and told him to apply afresh as the petitioner had wrongly mentioned the land’s survey number in the application. And, Mr. Karuppasamy submitted the second online application for ‘patta’ again on August 10.
After Mariraj and Jegadish surveyed the land on Tuesday (September 8), the surveyor told Mr. Karuppasamy that he would submit the survey drawings to the tahsildar only if he gives him ₹10,000 as bribe. When Mr. Karuppasamy told him that he did not have ₹10,000, Jegadish contacted him over the phone and asked him to give ₹4,000 for getting the ‘patta’.
Upset over this, Mr. Karuppasamy filed a complaint with the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption police, who first trapped Jegadish as he gave the bribe to him and then Mariraj, on Friday.
Further investigations are on.
