The accused were identified as Jiban Biswas, Balaram Pujari and Shashi Kumar. The case dates back to February 11, 2024, when the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW), Pallikaranai, acting on a tip-off, conducted a vehicle check near Kamatchi Hospital.
Police intercepted two cars. A search of the vehicles led to the seizure of 101 kg of ganja. The three men were arrested and the vehicles used for transporting the contraband were also seized. A case was registered at the Pallikaranai PEW under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The accused were remanded in judicial custody.
After examining the witnesses and material evidence and hearing the arguments, the court found all three accused guilty and sentenced each of them to 14 years imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh.
