In the event of utilisation of the eight-coach MEMU for operating regular services to Pollachi, the rakes of the Chemmozhi Express that is operated as a passenger service to Pollachi could be utilised to operate a full-fledged express service from Coimbatore to Bodinayanakur via Madurai.
Thereby, the long-time demand for a day-time train from Coimbatore to Madurai would also be fulfilled, general secretary of Podanur Train Users’ Association N. Subramanian said.
The rakes of the Chemmozhi Express that reaches Coimbatore at 4.45 a.m. could be utilised for operating a reserved express train service to Bodinayakanur by fixing departure at 5 a.m. such that it reaches the destination at 10.30 a.m. Passengers from Podanur, Kinathukadavu, Pollachi, Udumalpet, Palani, Oddanchathiram, Dindigul, Madurai, Theni and Bodinayanakur will be benefitted, he said.
According to a tour operator, the early morning train that would reach Dindigul in about three hours from Coimbatore would also benefit those who plan a trip to Kodaikanal
In the return direction, the train, even if it departs at 11 a.m. from Bodinayakanur will be able to reach Coimbatore at 4.30 p.m. such that there will be eight hours time left at Coimbatore Junction for maintenance before departing to Mannaragudi.
