Anthony Davis seems all in for the Washington Wizards this upcoming season, as the one-time NBA champion said he is willing to take on a leadership role to mentor one of the team’s top young stars.
In a recent interview with Monumental Sports Network, Davis believes the Washington Wizards formed a robust frontcourt with him and Alex Sarr, who has been one of the league’s top rim protectors in the past few seasons.
“I’ve always felt like I’ve always been very successful with another big,” Davis said about Sarr. “And the good thing about Alex is that he can space the floor. And on the defensive end, it’s going to be insane. You know, being able to guard the pick-and-roll, being able to switch on guards and guard them, rim protection. I think he’s second in the league in blocks right now.”
“And he’s young. So, I think he’s only going to get better. I just hope that the wisdom that I’ve learned from the greats that I’ve been around – Dwight (Howard), JaVale McGee, Tyson Chandler, Marc Gasol – all the guys that helped me can kind of carry over to help him as well,” he added.

Anthony Davis is up for a massive contract extension, with a $62.7 million player option next summer. While he has made it clear he wants max-level money, he and the Washington Wizards have agreed to postpone negotiations, at least at the beginning of the 2026-27 campaign.
“Davis has been traded twice in the past two seasons and has not been able to stay healthy, playing a total of 71 combined games in that span,” ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk said. “But this summer, Davis looked to be in shape and happy working out with the Wizards in Las Vegas, but how long either lasts remains to be seen.”
“The Wizards and Davis mutually decided to wait on talks on a potential extension until after the season starts, but depending how the season begins for Washington, the big man might seek a trade. But if he is healthy and comes back looking like the dominant player he has shown he can be, Washington could make noise in the Eastern Conference,” he ended.
