The Government of India is becoming gradually responsible to the people of India and the Nizam contends, it would be beneath his dignity to owe allegiance to a Government controlled by the people.
The Nizam is strongly supported in this protest by other Indian princes, who look with unconcealed perturbation on the growing encroachment on their “fundamental rights guaranteed by treaties”. The very idea of the Indian people taking to task the old-time rulers is galling to the Maharajahs and Nawabs.
It is a problem which is pressing more and more closely on the Government of India. That Government, however, is anxious, if possible, to postpone the decisive struggle with the old-time rulers — its hands being too full with the problems of the existing situation.
