The instructions and guidelines were conveyed during a meeting with the members of the organisers planning to install the idols. The meeting was presided over by the Commissioner of Police, Tiruchi N. Kamini. The procession of idols installed in the city for immersion in the Cauvery river is scheduled on September 16.
A police press release said permission would not be granted to install the idols at new places in the city this year. Idols should be installed at the same places where they were placed last year. Due permission should be obtained from the city police for the installation of idols. The idols should be to a maximum height of 10 feet including the pedestal upon which it is to be installed.
Necessary advice was given to the organisers to install CCTV cameras near the idols as a security measure. The roof under which the idols are to be installed should be made of tin or asbestos sheet. Gadgets to douse fire should also be placed nearby along with buckets containing water / sand.
The idols should not be installed near educational institutions, hospitals or near places of worship of other religions. The procession of the idols would begin at 4 p.m. Bursting of crackers during the procession is not permitted. Slogans should not be raised during the procession that hurts the sentiments of other religions, a press release said.
