The meeting was presided over by Mayor J. Ilamathi, Deputy Mayor S. Rajappa and Corporation Commissioner J. Prem Anand. A total of 51 resolutions were passed at the meeting. Even during previous meetings, water crisis in Dindigul had been highlighted by the Councillors. They urged the authorities to resolve the issue.
The Councillors expressed disappointment over the exclusion of Dindigul Corporation from the Vaigai drinking water project. They said a resolution should be passed in this regard to reconsider it and implement the project to resolve the water crisis in Dindigul.
The Corporation Commissioner said Vaigai river was dry. Instead, the Cauvery combined drinking water project could be expanded to meet the drinking water needs of Dindigul.
The Councillors also questioned the authorities as to why they were not invited to the foundation stone laying ceremony of the new bus stand in Dindigul. The Corporation Commissioner said both the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor had been invited for the function. In the future, Councillors would be invited to such functions, he said.
It was pointed out that a tannery had been operating near the new bus stand. The groundwater in the area was contaminated. An alternative place should have been chosen for the bus stand, the Councillors said.
The Corporation Commissioner said the work had commenced after obtaining permission from all departments.
Some of the other issues that were highlighted at the meeting included sewage getting drained into waterbodies. The Councillors said dengue prevention measures should be intensified.
The Corporation Commissioner said an adequate number of workers would be deployed for dengue prevention measures. Regular inspections would be carried out and fogging intensified, he said.
